Celebrating the Spectacular Spring Migration
We celebrate the spring bird migration by offering a season full of bird and other nature related activities.
The birds are the main focus, so get out there! Guided bird and nature walks are offered throughout the season.

Wednesday, April 26th at 6:30 pm
Early Blossoms, Native Wildflowers with Harvey Desnick
Spring is the time to find the true natives. See and learn about the many native wildflowers that bloom on the Keweenaw in April and May into June. Presented by Harvey Desnick Photographer, author, publisher of Keweenaw Wildflowers Blooming Seasons.
Hosted by the Friends of the Library / Calumet HS Library, 57070 Mine Street ~ Admission is free.
Saturday, May 20th ~ Official Festival Day
Family fun for birders and nature lovers of all ages!
8:30 am – 11:00 am ~ Not Your Mothers Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
AUCE Pancake Buffet ~ Enjoy fluffy pancakes with a delightful array of toppings including fresh berries and fruit, fruit sauces and syrups, various toppings and Peg’s famous Frangelico Cream! Served with bacon and sausages as well as coffee or milk. Proceeds benefit the Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch!
Held at the Mariner North in Copper Harbor. Cost is $8.50 per person.
11:30 am until we get back ~ Keweenaw Point Walk
Check out phase 1 of the new Keweenaw Point Trail with Hannah Rooks! This project is currently in phase 2 which will be completed this year with phase 3 following. Phase 1 starts from Manganese Road and ends at the Mandan Road (end of Us-41). It runs along Lake Fanny Hooe with some amazing views and some great bird watching. A shuttle will take us to Mandan and we will walk back to Manganese Road and to the parking area, approximately 3 miles. The trail is moderate with some hilly areas. Be sure to have appropriate footwear and bring drinking water.
Meet at the Welcome Center (2nd & Gratiot St) shuttle will leave at 11:30 am

1:00 pm to 5:00 pm ~ Celebrate the Birds of Spring
Visit us at the Community Hall for an afternoon of activities! Learn about the Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch. Take a trip up Brockway to meet the bird counters.
2:00 ~ Raptors of Brockway with Karen Karl featuring a slideshow with photos by Tim Baerwald, Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch’s lead counter.
3:30 ~ Local Spring Wildflowers with Harvey Desnick Photographer, author and publisher of “Keweenaw Wildflowers Blooming Seasons”. Learn about the wildflowers and enjoy Harvey’s beautiful photos presented in a slideshow.
Wednesday, May 31st
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm ~ Cocktail Party at the Harbor Haus
~Benefit to support the Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch!
Set off the season with a Cocktail Party at the Harbor Haus Restaurant! Sample delicious appetizers and enjoy Harbor Haus hospitality. Learn about Copper Harbor Birding and the BMHW. There will be a Silent Auction and a 50/50 Raffle. Come for the fun and help protect your environment too!
Cost is $20 at the door with a cash bar.

Birdlife of the Keweenaw with Dr. David Flaspohler ~ (2) Saturdays; June 3rd and June 10th, 8 am – 2 pm
This fun and informative workshop will appeal to those just getting into birding and to experienced birders wishing to hone their skills. Basic bird biology, identification, and habitat associations will be covered.
